The Disaster Nap

Two weeks ago, I took a short evening nap.

Most people would be okay with taking a short nap in the evening… Unless they’re like me and know that a 20-minute nap will inject insomnia juice into the brain and give the body another 8 hours of energy.

To make a long story short, I ended up going to bed at 4am and falling asleep at around 4:40-ish. I’m not even a coffee drinker!

Before the nap incident, I made it a point to be in bed before midnight and to wake up by 7am (6am on most days). I was onĀ a two-month streak.

I even developed a productive morning routine that I stuck to religiously. By 10am, I had read the bible, reflected and prayed some, wrote my daily post, worked on my side project, ate breakfast, listened to a motivational audio book, and finished a house chore or two.

The good habits had been developed, I was content with my performance and all was good in the world.

But when I took that nap, I made an exception to a singleĀ habit that affected many other good habits. For the past two weeks, I’ve been a third-shifter trying to get back to first-shift habits.

Moral of the story: Don’t make exceptions to your habits unless you want to change them.
