Measuring goodness

There are two ways people measure goodness:

1. by what we restrain ourselves from
2. by what we choose to embrace

Those who measure goodness using the first don’t measure it at all. What they measure is our fallen nature.

I think that we can’t go around… measuring our goodness by what we don’t do. By what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think… we’ve got to measure goodness by what we *embrace*, what we create… and who we include.

-Père Henri from the movie Chocolat – 2000
